February 24, 1920 – July 30, 2009
John Rajko, beloved father and father in-law of Marta and John Toltesi, passed away peacefully on Thursday July 30, 2009 at the age of 89 years.
John was born in Bicske, Hungary. He married the love of his life Ili on April 5, 1945. He worked as Chief Accountant for a national company until he immigrated to Canada with his wife and young daughter during the Hungarian Uprising in 1956. He joined the staff of the Planning Department of the City of Calgary on February 12, 1957, initially taking the position of Draftsman, followed by positions as Technical Assistant and Engineering Assistant. He received numerous commendations based on his high quality performance. In 1975 John took on an administrative position. In 1978 he was promoted to Administrative Accountant and in 1985 he retired after twenty-eight years of faithful service. John was a friendly, conscientious, dedicated and hard working individual. He was highly respected and well liked by his co-workers. John and Ili were happily married for fifty-five years and enjoyed travelling to various destinations throughout the world. Their favourite vacation spot was Hawaii where they holidayed yearly for twenty-six years, creating many cherished memories. His family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the greatest source of pride and joy in his life. They never failed to elicit a big smile and a kind word from Api. For the past nine years, Totus Tuus Rosary Makers Association was blessed to have John as a most devoted and dedicated member. We will never forget his gentleness, quiet faithfulness, unbounded generosity and his unconditional love. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.
Besides his loving daughter and son in-law, John is remembered by his granddaughter Lisa (Steven); grandson Christopher (Christa); great-grandchildren, Natalie and Alex; his best friend of many years Sandor (Duca) Jaszay, all of Calgary; and nephews, Julius and Peter Rajko and their families in Hungary. John was predeceased by his beloved wife Ili, his parents Julius and Franciska and his older brother Julius.
