Charles Radnothy of Calgary passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at the age of 92 years.
Charles worked at Vacum Oil Company in Hungary. During the war the family left Hungary to Austria, then France then Canada by 1956. Immediately upon arrival in Canada, Charles began work for Canadair as an aircraft mechanic. Charles transferred to Calgary, bringing his remaining family with him.
Charles and his surviving brother Imre worked at Field Aviation until retirement.
His sister Margaret, who resided and cared for him for the last seventeen years of his life, also survives.
Between the ages of five and 35, he learned how to play fourteen musical instruments. A very accomplished artistic gentleman, he wrote his own music, operas, operettas, and performed in various venues. He was invited by the Hungarian Army to perform his self written opera at age 86. Charles was an artist who didn’t paint much after about 1970 but he did sell prints of his art until 2005. He wrote and published numerous books and poems.
Charles was predeceased by his father Ferenc in Montreal in 1964; his wife Elizabeth in France in 1948; his mother Margit of Calgary in 1977; his brother Ferenc in Hungary in 1995; and his brother-in-law Earl in Calgary in 2002. His brother Ödön was missing in action during the war in January 1943 in Russia. Charles is survived by numerous relatives in Hungary, France, Montreal, and Ontario. He is also survived by many friends from the time he was Choir Master at St. Elizabeth Church, which he attended until his late 80s.
