July 5, 1925 – November 15, 2011
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Tibor Rada on Tuesday, November 15, 2011, at the age of 86 years.
Tibor was predeceased by his loving wife, Irma Rada; and by his sister, Susan Toth. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Gina Rist; son-in-law, John Rist; granddaughters, Andrea and Elissa; and his sisters, Dora Magas of Calgary and Maria Pap of Hungary.
Tibor was born in Budapest, Hungary. He trained at the military academy and graduated in 1944. He met Irma in Germany and they immigrated to Canada in 1948. From Winnipeg, they moved to Calgary in 1954 where Tibor worked as a draftsman at Candel Oil. He was very involved in the Hungarian community, including organizing the Hungarian Veterans Association gala balls and the Vadrozsa folkdance group, both of which continue as valuable legacies in Calgary’s cultural fabric. Tibor was an accomplished amateur artist and had a special interest in landscapes of the Rocky Mountains. As an avid historian, he wrote articles and books about Hungarian events and institutions. Tibor will be remembered for his patriotism to his former homeland and lifelong devotion to the Catholic church.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church (819 – 13th Avenue S.W.) on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Please forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
