Barb, beloved wife of Bill of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at the age of 57 years.
Born on December 11, 1950, Barbara was the chosen daughter of Raymond and Dora Gerding and was raised in Milo, AB. After graduating high school in Vulcan, AB in 1968, Barb moved to Calgary, eventually working for the Oil and Gas Conservation Board. She then worked for the Legal Aid Society of Alberta. In 1974, she and Bill were married and together had various adventures including living in the southern US and Mexico.
They settled in Calgary and started a family. Barb’s pursuits included volunteering for CSEG, Catholic Women’s League, teaching Sunday school, and helping out with many charities and fund raisers. Barb enjoyed yearly trips to the CSEG Ski-Spree with her family. Many happy summers were spent with her family at the cabin on the Bow River near Milo. Always an animal lover, she provided a loving home for many pets over the years. Barb enjoyed working at St. Matthew’s School as a teacher’s aide until her retirement in 2005. Barb’s final years were greatly brightened by the birth of her beautiful first grandchild, Logan, and by trips to the new property on Vancouver Island.
Besides her loving husband Bill, Barb is survived by her two sons and daughter-in-law, Jamie and Susan Quirk and grandson Logan, and Robbie Quirk, all of Calgary; and Bill’s parents, Betty and Lorne Dunn. Barb is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
