May 23, 1947 – November 6, 2011

We lost Gail after a brief, unexpected illness on Sunday, November 6, 2011. Her children, Deanna (Jason) and Darryl (Bruce), to whom she was literally everything, were with her when she decided it was time to give up her courageous fight.

She will be cherished forever by her brightest lights, her grandchildren, Sharalyn (Mike), Jacob and Juliana, as well her great-granddaughter JaiLyn. She was a proud older sister to her three brothers and sister and was adored by many nieces and nephews who were held close to her heart. There are too many friends to mention but if we created a composite, this person would resemble Cid (Cindy) who Gail thought held the moon.

Gail was a single Mom who knew an education was the path to her family’s success. Juggling kids, work and school, she eventually completed her Certified Management Accounting (CMA) Designation in 1991. She embarked on a long career in accounting that filled her days with challenge and immense satisfaction. She was extremely proud of her membership in PASC and CAPPA.

Gail’s happiness with the professional admiration of her colleagues was surpassed only with that of their personal affection. The highlight of any week would be a gathering that involved treats. She kept a large stash in her office in a thinly veiled attempt to attract visitors.

We are grateful to Gail’s work family at Perpetual Energy who filled her soul for giving it all over to her family in her off time. Sue Rose was a true inspiration as a woman in leadership and Gail admired her greatly. Thank you for allowing Gail to realize her career aspirations.

Gail stayed fit and trim with weekly visits to Curves. She loved golfing although it wasn’t always mutual. She enjoyed walking, an activity shared with many walking partners and one she and her son did together often. The completion of the Walk to End Breast Cancer was a particular fitness goal which turned into an achievement that permeated her entire life. Thank you, Shawna.

Gail received the most amazing care during her brief stay in the ICU at Rockyview Hosptial. Eternal thanks to Dr. Alvarez, nurses Melissa and Jody and the entire team for their heroic measures in the battle to heal our mother.

A Celebration of Gail’s Life will be held at the Innisfail Golf Club on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through Formal dress NOT required, come as you are. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice. Gail would be pleased if you invested in education of any kind, as it truly is the path to success.

In living memory of Gail Quartly, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park Cochrane by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH Telephone: (403) 276-2296.

Condolence Messages

  1. Claudette Shaw :

My most sincere condolences to Gails family. I know of you all eventhough you have not met me.Gail was a true friend and to me a real inspiration. She amazed me.All she was able to accomplish for herself and her family. Due to our busy lives we did not keep in touch as much as we should have since she began doing much more of her volunteer efforts with PASC. CAPPA is still benefitting from her volunteer services our conference took huge leaps into professionalism under her guidance.
I am so glad we reconnected just 3 weeks ago at a PASC Lunch meeting. A chuckle over the big metropolis of New Norway that my husband Rick called home for a while. The memories will always be nothing but good.

My condolences to Gail’s family. I worked down the hall from Gail at Perpetual. She was always sweet to talk to, about her walks, yummy food and shopping, to name a few. I’ll remember her fondly and am thinking of you during this time.

  3. I did not know Gail well, but the couple of times I met her when I was in Calgary with my dear pal Darryl, Gail would come out to cheer on our volleyball team. I recall talking with her about her career with the energy trust company specifically when the feds were canning them, but she obviously was such a solid smart professional , that she grew in her career. Her love and support of her family was always outstanding.. A lovely person will be missed tremendously.

  9. Darryl, Ian and Ollie :

It’s a rare moment in life when you meet that special someone who you connect with on so many levels. Gail was that special someone to us. With her motherly advice, you always felt listened to and cared for. We always loved hearing the adventures and visits she and her son and son-in-law would have with one another. They were not just family, but friends as well – a true gift. Our hearts and thoughts are with Lil D, Bruce and the rest of the family.
Hugs, Big D, Ian and Ollie xo

Our love and sincerest condolences to you and Bruce.
Much, much love, T and J
