QUANCE – Daniel Charles

September 30, 1947 – February 1, 2011

Daniel Quance left us peacefully on February 1, 2011 surrounded by his loving family.  He was an example to us all of how to live a life full of dignity, courage, kindness and love in spite of the many challenges that he faced in life

Dan was born, raised and educated in Alberta, graduating with a B.P.E. from U of C, where, sporting number 43, he played centre for the Dinos basketball team, and won two consecutive M.V.P. awards.  He was an athlete and a born teacher who loved to learn almost as much as he loved to teach.  His family meant the world to him and he also had a passion for music, sports, playing chess, and especially horses.  He had a genuine interest in others and loved to talk and banter with people on any topic.  Dan was a very principled person who believed in being tolerant and responsible.

Dan will forever be remembered and missed by his best friend and wife, Susan; two children Bryan Quance (Jenilee Schlinker), and Robyn Hay (Glen); and his precious granddaughters Catherine and Sonya. He is also survived by his mother and father Betty and Charles Quance; sister Sandra Jensen (Barry); sister-in-law Donna Jopling (Gary); mother-in-law Dorothy Hardy; and nieces and nephews. Dan was predeceased by his father-in-law Bill Hardy.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Sunday, February 6, 2011 at 1:30 p.m.  You may forward condolences through In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Dan’s memory to a children’s charity of your choice.

In living memory of Daniel Quance, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park, Cochrane by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot Chapel, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.  Telephone: (403) 241-0044.

Condolence Messages

  1. Don M. Cuncannon :

I was sorry to read of Danny’s passing on February 1st. I always remembered Danny from Morrin and the United Church Tyro’s when I helped Paul Stickney with the group. It was only natural that I followed his success in sports with pride and also, I believe the one and only time I spoke with him in Calgary at the Confederation Golf Course, just behind where we were living. We are thinking of all of you at this difficult time. Don & Doreen Cuncannon Family.
