October 18, 1913 – October 15, 2012
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Louie “Luigi” Pullano on Monday, October 15, 2012 at the Rockyview Hospital as the age of 98 years, three days short of his 99th birthday.
Louie was born in Calgary, AB, moving to Winnipeg, MB at a young age. He joined the RCAF in 1943 and upon returning from WWII, Louie was involved in the printing industry until his retirement at the age of 69. He and his beloved wife Gladys returned to Calgary to be closer to his family. Gladys passed away in September of 1996. Louie’s love for sports was unsurpassed. He refereed and coached many local baseball, soccer and Oldtimer hockey teams. His passion was soccer and he was always quick to say he was the oldest officiating referee in Calgary. He received an award from the Calgary Booster Club for his contribution to amateur sports. Louie touched the lives of everyone he met. He will be remembered for his quick wit, generosity and love for life.
Louie is survived by his daughter Joani (Dwight) Schnuth of Calgary; his granddaughter Melissa (Cliff) Bauer of Victoria, BC; and numerous nephews.
In respecting Louie’s wishes, there will be no public funeral service. A Celebration of his life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 285 (9202 Horton Road S.W.) on Saturday, October 20, 2012 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. A private family service will be held at a later date. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The family would like to thank the ER staff, Dr. Rose and Dr. Friesen and nurses at Rockyview General Hospital for your kindness and compassion. Our love and thanks to We Care Home Services, especially Shirley for keeping him safe at home, all his coffee pals from Tim Hortons and McDonalds for listening to his jokes over and over again, and especially Dave Fage for being his friend. If friends so desire, memorial donations can be made directly to Royal Canadian Legion Branch 285, 9202 Horton Road S.W. T2V 2X4. “The team is now full, third base is occupied”…play well Dad.
