PRIOR, James William

July 7, 1927 – April 7, 2012

Jim Prior passed away peacefully April 7, 2012 at the Southwood Hospice at the age of 84 years.

Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife Vivian; daughter Penny (Jim) Norrie; son Jim (Ellen) Prior; granddaughters, Jennifer Norrie and Janelle (Jason) Wetmore; great-granddaughter Olivia Wetmore; sister Joyce Husson; sisters-in-law, Erma (Jack) Burrell, Eileen Mather, Cleo Kilroe, and Marguerite Dippel; brothers-in-law, Bob (Ida) Kilroe and Jack Kilroe as well as numerous extended family and many good friends. Jim was predeceased by his parents Johanna and Dennis Prior; sisters, Joan Rancourt and Beulah Prior; mother- and father-in-law Myrtle and Steve Kilroe; sister-in-law June Kilroe; and brothers-in-law, Bob Mather, Mel Dippel, Andy Rancourt, and George Husson.

Jim loved to be in the company of his children, grandchildren and his precious great-granddaughter and Vivian’s family. Jim retired from Canadian Western Natural Gas / Atco in 1988 after thirty years of service.

Jim was a passionate golfer and held a membership at Highwood Golf and Country Club for many years. Upon retirement he enjoyed many years in Arizona golfing and course marshalling. In the summers in Calgary, he was a course marshal at Heritage Pointe for many years.

Jim was a unique soul, whose sense of humor, endless stories and jokes captured the hearts of many. He never did lose that sense of humor. His friendly nature and tough guy demeanor will be forever remembered and missed by all who knew him.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Jim’s Life to be held at the Glenmore Inn (2720 Glenmore Trail S.E.) on Friday, April 13, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the “Glenmore East Room.” You’re invited to bring a “Jim story” or “I remember when….” to share.

Special thanks to Dr. J.W. Warnica’s cardiology research clinic at the Foothills Medical Center with thanks to Brenda Smith, Dorothy Scarcelli and Debbie Eichmann.     Its been nearly 25 years but I fondly remember Jim as a fun guy to work with, a quick wit and no bullshit gentleman. One of the guys that made the gas company fun to come to work at in those years…

  5. My thoughts go to the family of Mr. Prior.
    I was very fortunate to have him as my baseball coach when I was about 15 years old. He taught me a lot and it was always fun and a learning experience
    having Mr.Prior as a coach. Using his influence I’m fortunate to be playing Senior Slo Pitch at the age of 65.
