October 1, 2013 – Okotoks, AB

Ronald Organ Powlan beloved husband of Charlene of Calgary, passed away peacefully after a valiant battle against cancer on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the age of 79 years.

Ron was a very active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints, and served over the years in several positions. He and his wife were missionaries at the Calgary Bishops Storehouse. He loved theatre and many people from the Church and community were able to participate in Broadway plays with Ron as the director. He also enjoyed acting and had the lead role in The King & I at the Jubilee Auditorium.

Besides his loving wife Charlene, Ronald is survived by daughter and son-in-law Sandra and Bryce Walton; along with his four granddaughters and spouses; and his much beloved six great-grandchildren.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Friday, October 11, 2013 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and prior to the service from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. Funeral Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Sundance Chapel (100 Sunpark Drive S.E.) on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service will be held at the Cardston Cemetery at 4:00 p.m. that afternoon.   7. I still can’t hear more than four bars of a Carpenters song without being instantly transported back to the Powlan’s basement on a Friday night – playing parchinko or losing chess to someome to whom I had just taught the game.
    Thank you Ron for reaching out. You gave me my first big break in show biss and while there may not have been much of a payout from your point of view, it was a priceless experience for me.
    I love you Charlene and Sandra. You are such wonderful people – God bless you.
