POWDERFACE, Velma “Ena” “Mama” (nee Benjamin)

We are sad to announce the passing of our beloved Velma “Mama” Powderface on Tuesday, March 11, 2014. Velma was born on November 5, 1948 in Morley, AB. Velma was the great granddaughter of Walking Buffalo (George McLean). She was a custodian for over 35 years at the Stoney Tribal Administration 1977 – 2012. Velma was raised in Morley and Gardner Ranch, AB and attended Morley Indian Residential School. Velma believed in the traditional feasts of Passover. Velma will be tremendously missed, but she is now free, her pain has ended forever after.

She was predeceased by her sons; Evan, Darryl and Tony; daughter Claudine; parents; Paul Jr. and Lily, grandparents; Paul Sr. and Florence, Jonas and Libby, Johnny Powderface, brothers; Michael, Rudy, Vern, Gilbert, Harvey and Isaac, in-laws Frank (Caroline), aunts and uncles; Don, Isaac (Lucy), Peter, Hanna (Jacob), Edna, Dorothy and Maisie; sisters; Jennifer, Bertha, Frances, Elsie, sister-in-law Norma, brother-in-law Willard, Arvid, grandchildren; Evan Jr., Evangeline, Amandaline, son-in-law John Daniels.

A special thank you to the Foothills Special Services medical team for giving her special care in her time of need and making her comfortable.
