February 19, 2014 – Calgary, AB
With sadness we announce the transition of Dora Lorene Poucette to the Spirit World. Dora was born to the late Mary Mark and Noah Poucette on May 30, 1947. She was called Home by the Great Spirit on February 19, 2014.
Dora was raised by her late grandmother Jenny Poucette in a traditional setting. She upheld Nakoda traditions and had a deep faith in Native Spirituality. Educated at the Morley Indian Residential School, she later received a Life Skills Certificate and Nechi Certificate. In her youth, Dora was a skilled trumpet player and participated in the Morley Indian Residential School Marching Band. Cherished memories include blueberry picking in Ontario each summer with her husband and travelling with her sister Tina to the USA and Canada. She will be tremendously missed but she is now free. In a poem she writes “Listen closely and you will hear my laughter” so listen now and remember that her pain has ended forever after.
Dora leaves to mourn her husband of twenty-eight years, Clarence Gardner; her beloved children, Shane (Vanessa), Keon (Evelina), Robert (Shawna), Angela (Beratt) and Selina (Paul); thirty-one grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Dora will be fondly remembered by her sisters Tina Fox and Virginia House; her brothers Tyrone Hunter (Verna), Clint Hunter (Cindy) and adopted son Derek Gardner (Tiffany). Also holding cherished memories are her friends Winnie Bearspaw and Vivian Hunter and numerous relatives from the Poucette, Mark, Chiniki and Cecil families. Dora was predeceased by her grandchildren, Jimmy Poucette, Shady Crawler, Leighton Crawler and Amanda Lynn Crawler; siblings, Evangeline Rider, Verda Abraham, Darren Hunter and numerous relatives.
Wake Services will be held at the late Dora’s residence (Morley, AB) on Monday, February 24, 2014 and Tuesday, February 25, 2014. Funeral Services will be held at Morley United Church (Morley, AB) on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at 1:00p.m. Graveside Service to follow at the Poucette Family Plot (Morley, AB).
