March 28, 1924 – November 28, 2012

Dorothy Carmon Poole beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother of Calgary, passed quietly into the presence of our Lord on November 28, 2012 at the age of 88 years.

Dorothy was born on March 28, 1924 in Wakaw, SK. She grew up on a small farm in the Cudworth area. She married Don, son of Herbert and Victoria Poole, on May 4, 1944. In 1951, they moved to Edmonton, AB where in addition to raising her four children, Dorothy attended the University of Alberta and obtained her Education Degree. Dorothy then taught in the Edmonton public school system until 1985. After retiring from teaching, Dorothy and Don travelled across North America by motorhome and also to other places around the globe. They moved to Calgary in 1992 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Dorothy then spent a number of years devoted to caring for her husband until his passing in 1996. In her last years, Dorothy remained active and independent and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. She was a particularly skilled bridge player and will be missed at the card table by many.

She is survived by her four children, son Wayne Donald Poole and daughters, Carole Mitchell, Judy Poole and Darra-Lee Poole; ten grandchildren, Katherine, Jennifer, Erin, Gillian, Michael, Christopher, Laura, Holly, Olivia and Vanessa; and six great-grandchildren, Isabella, Jaxon, Dylan, Meghan, Sebastian, and Avalon. She also leaves behind her sister Audrey Liden and numerous nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her loving husband of fifty-two years Walter Donald “Don”, her parents Charles and Ethel Beck and brother Lyle Beck.

I credit Dorothy’s friendship and subsequent organizational skills with travel, bridge and social outings as strong factors in my mother’s, Emma Quon, successful relocation to Calgary in 1997.
