Giuseppe Plenzik of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at the age of 93 years, surrounded by his family.
Giuseppe was born in Sepino, Campobasso, Italy on April 10, 1920. He served in the Italian army during the Second World War and was taken prisoner by the Germans before returning home at the end of the war. In 1949, upon returning home from the war, Giuseppe moved his family to Piemonte region in Italy, looking for better economic conditions and job opportunities. He was a blacksmith by trade and worked as a maintenance person in a brick factory in his little town of Brozolo within the province of Torino.
In 1974, along with his wife Teresa, Giuseppe moved to Canada to start a new life in this country and to be close to his daughter’s family. Upon arriving in Calgary he worked for the Alberta Vocational Centre (AVC) where he spent ten years working until his retirement. His passion was making steel ornamental items such as fences, gates and other steel items which he enjoyed doing for his family.
Giuseppe is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Giovanna and Carlo Oddone; son and daughter-in-law, Libero and Rosella Plenzik; grandchildren, Manuela Lombardo, Elizabeth and her husband Robert Paolucci, Giancarlo Oddone, Mauro And his wife Maria Plenzik, and Daniel and his wife Ania Plenzik; and great-grandchildren, Roberto, Victoria, Claudio, Alessandra, Eva, Gianmarco, Giuseppe, Natalia, and Anthony. Giuseppe was predeceased by his wife Teresa in 1985.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Parish (formerly Our Lady of Grace Italian and English Catholic Church) (1714 – 14 Avenue N.E.) on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
