PINKNEY, George Russell

January 15, 1935 – January 24, 2012

George Pinkney, beloved husband of Odette Pinkney of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at the age of 77 years.

George started his flying career in Ontario at the age of 16 years. He helped open up the north and build the DEW line retiring as a Captain with Eastern Provincial Airways in 1975.

Besides his loving wife of fifty-five years, George is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Patricia Pinkney, Gerry and Diana Pinkney, and Eric and Sophia Pinkney; a daughter and son-in-law Manon and Louis Thibault; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Bruce and Ruby Pinkney, and his nephew Neil and his wife Jean Pinkney. George was predeceased by his brothers, Don and Lyle Pinkney.

A Celebration of George’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.     I knew George and his wife very well in the early 70s. I was one of his first co pilots on the 737 and always looked forward to a month of flying with him.     Very sorry indeed to hear that George passed away, I remember our fishing trips when we lived in Gander trying to catch the elusive salmon, we were not always successful, but enjoyed the outing, he was a true friend,
    George and I flew together on my last flight with EPA, May 30th 1966. A Herald aircraft CF-EPC. Time goes by.

    So sad to hear of George passsing. We remember what a kind and friendly man he was. Lots of good memories sharing happy times while visiting Calgary. I think of you two while you were here in San Diego and although George was not well, you two were so good with each other. I remember you two sitting together on the sofa sharing a book, so cute together. I know he will be missed. Thinking of you.
