C. Cairo Pineda-Selva beloved husband of Dina, passed away at the Salvation Army’s Agape Hospice after a courageous nine year battle with cancer.
Cairo was born in Managua, Nicaragua to Ernesto and Dolores, the fourth of six children. In his early working career Cairo spent time employed as an EMT, and Disc Jockey for a local radio station. After immigrating to Calgary, AB in February of 1987 with his family, Cairo became an electrician by trade. In the early 1990’s he earned his journeyman ticket, a lifetime accomplishment of which Cairo was most proud. In 2010, he fulfilled another of his life dreams when he travelled to Santiago, Cuba, to celebrate his sixtieth birthday. Cairo will be fondly remembered for his unique sense of humour, his love of music and poetry, and his deep rooted sense of loyalty to his friends and family.
Cairo is survived by his wife of forty years Dina; son Cairo; daughters Karla and Alma; and mother-in-law Ambrosia. He is also remembered by his sons-in-law Steven and Joey; daughter-in-law Johanna; and two grandchildren Bailin and McKenna. Cairo will be missed by many close friends, his siblings and extended family.
