PILLON, Barbara (Barb) Joan

October 27, 1953 – January 15, 2012

Barb’s courageous ten year battle with breast cancer ended suddenly on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at the age of 58 years.

Her strength inspired us all, and in the hearts of all who knew her, she was truly a winner. She was an angel and a hero to so many, and her legacy lives on in all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her guiding light continues to shine, and her soul transcends as she is now our guardian angel. Spread your wings and Fly.

Barb is survived by her two children, Lori Benson of Calgary and Gary Pillon of Okotoks; five grandchildren; her mother Dorothy Benson; five siblings and their spouses, Carol Arbecz and Ron Piper, Evelyn Benson, John and Lois Benson, Arlene and John Campbell, and Rob and Sandra Benson and their families. She was predeceased by her father John Benson.

A Celebration of Barb’s life will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church (20 Banister Gate, Okotoks, AB) on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

  4. Amber MacNeill & family :

To Gary and Lori and family, I am truly sorry for your loss. Barb fought with such amazing strength that was so inspiring to so many. She was one determined woman. I will always remember her warmth and kindness to me over the years. She always remembered to call me on my birthday. Whenever I would run into her she always took the time to have a conversation that left you feeling like she really cared, because she did care. Until we meet again on the other shore, Barb…fair well for now.

I wanted to share a poem that I had recently found. Gary,Lori and the extended family our prayers are with you both.

    Your Gentle Face

Your gentle face and patient smile
    With sadness we recall,
You had a kindly word for each
    And died beloved by all.
The voice is mute and stilled the heart
That loved us well and true,
Ah, bitter was the trial to part
From one so good as you.
You are not forgotten loved one
    Nor will you ever be,
As long as life and memory last
    We will remember thee.
We miss you now, our hearts are sore,
As time goes by we miss you more.
Your loving smile, your gentle face,
No one can fill your empty place.

Lori and Gary, I met your mom when she moved in beside me on New street in Hamilton. I was 10 and she was 18 with long red hair and a smile that you could forever stare at. We became friends but over the years lost touch. It wasn’t till I found you Lori on facebook that I found my friend but her everday fight kept us from really conecting. I am sorry I didn’t get to see her one last time but I do know she knows I loved her and that oneday I will beable to hug her and say those words. RIP My Friend
