PHANEUF, Mary Steele (nee Donaldson)

November 28, 1930 – Sherbrooke, Quebec
January 24, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta

Our dear Mary passed away on January 24, 2015 after a very courageous battle with cancer at the Southwood hospice in Calgary Alberta.

Mary was a strong woman who believed in her faith which carried her through this past year with her health struggles. She faced the pain with courage till the very end. The church had a strong importance to her and it is there that she made many special friends and found much comfort. A special thank you to her loving friends, especially the “the three musketeers”. Together with her soul mate and husband of 54 years she enjoyed square dancing, hiking, and most of all camping. She was always proud of her family as they were of her.

Mary is survived by her daughter Louise (Wayne); son Michael (Sylvie); grandchildren Neil (Amber), Jenn (Tye); her first great-grandson Emerson; her brother Jim (Marianne); and special nieces Anne and Kim. She was predeceased by her loving husband Jacques (Jack); her son Daniel; and her precious and beloved dog Muffin.

Today dear family and friends hug each other a little tighter because Mary would have wanted it that way. God bless

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas More Catholic Church (15 Templebow Road N.E.) on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Mary Phaneuf, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

Condolence Messages

  1. To the family of Mary:
I’ve only known your mother a short while. She came into my life about a year ago, and we hit it off right away. I learned so much from Mary – she taught me a lot about life, and about carrying one’s cross with acceptance and faith. She had some tough questions, too, but each time that her cross grew heavier, she dealt with it, and moved on. Thank you, Mary, for allowing me the privilege of sharing some of your journey with you. I hope I can be as brave one day. My condolences to all the family. God bless you all with His Love and Peace.
    Love, Audrey

  3. Annamaria & Don Matsui :

Your mother was a lovely lady. I used to chat with her after the 9:30 Sunday mass & visited her last spring at the Tom Baker. She expressed how surprised & appreciative she was of the many visits by the parishioners. I’m heart sick that I missed her funeral mass today. She fought a brave battle. My deepest condolences to the family.

  4. Diane & Dave Patterson :

Mary and I worked together at the Royal Bank for a few years & shared some good times there. She called me mid January to let me know about her illness & we had a good chat. She spoke lovingly of her family and new grandson. I was away from January 16 until the 27th and had planned to visit her on my return. I called Heritage today & was told of her passing. Louise, to you & your family we send our deepest sympathy. Mary was a good & kind lady.
