November 22, 1934 – July 1, 2012
Wally Pettem beloved husband of Angie Pettem of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 1, 2012 at the age of 77 years.
Wally was born in Killam, AB and spent his youth there. He enjoyed playing baseball with the senior ball team when he was only 15. He started his career as a telegrapher for the CNR in 1953. He went to work for Federated Co-op in Edmonton in 1964 and transferred to Calgary in 1966. Wally moved to Calgary Co-op in 1974 as Vice President of Planning. He retired at the age of 59.
For many years Wally and Angie travelled before he became ill. He often talked about the many good friends he made over the years. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing and spending time with his family.
Wally is survived by his wife of 56 years, Angie; children Deb (Den), Don (Terry), Leslie (Mark), Pat and Brenda (Eliah); grandchildren Sarah, Stacey, Ryan, Michelle, Tami, Jason, Jennifer, Allison, Laura, Starla, Zeph, Nez and Christa; great-grandchildren, Baylie, Kaya, Tianna, Jayde and Lillian; as well as his brother Jack and sister-in-law Ann.
Wally was predeceased by his mother Gert, father Newt and brother Jim.
A Celebration of Wally’s Life will be held at the Carriage House Inn Desert Palms Room (9030 Macleod Trail S.) on Thursday, July 5, 2012 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Everyone is Welcome. Circumstances prevented me from attending Wally’s Celebration today, but I wanted to offer condolences on behalf of myself and father, Ed. We both knew Wally through Calgary Co-op and he was always a class individual and one of the real unsung leaders of Calgary Co-op. We are all richer for having known Wally and we share your loss.
