March 15, 1929 – Langen, Germany
February 9, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta
Kurt Petri, beloved husband of Alfreda Petri (nee Lenhardt) of Calgary, passed away on February 9, 2015 at the age of 85 years.
Kurt commenced work at CP Rail very shortly after his arrival to Calgary in 1955. He worked in the shop initially, and upon honing his English language skills, commenced work at Ogden Shops, becoming a budget analyst over time. Kurt retired from CP in 1989 at the age of 60. Thereafter he and Alfreda moved to Penticton where they enjoyed twelve lovely years of weather and good camaraderie with their friends. Kurt, in his earlier and middle years, loved tinkering with cars, gardening, woodwork and working around his home. He took up photography and built an amateur photographic studio. Kurt always had a home project in the works. While in Pentiction, he learned the craft of “applewine making”. Though a modest consumer of spirits, Kurt won an award in 1986 for his applewine on one of his trips to Germany, where he and his wife visited on many occasions. His heart seemed to be drawn back to his homeland in his later years. Kurt was an old world gentleman with dignity and devotion to his family.
Besides his beloved wife of sixty-five years, Kurt is survived by his eldest daughter, Veronica Petri of Calgary, AB and partner Douglas Leslie of Carseland, AB and youngest daughter, Lorraine Petri and her spouse Rick Fleming of Coquitlam, BC; his youngest brother, Horst and his wife Ilona Petri of Langen, Germany; as well as many family members from Munich, Stadtallendorf-Schweinsberg, Langen and Frankfurt, Germany. He was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Gretel Petri and his oldest brother, Hans, and wife Waltraud Petri.
