PERRY, Neil William

November 18, 1949 – Regina, SK
December 9, 2013 – Calgary, AB

Neil William Perry, beloved husband of Cheryl Perry (nee Stewart) passed away at Foothills Medical Centre, Calgary, AB, on Monday, December 9, 2013 at the age of 64 years.

Neil grew up in Regina, worked in the metal recycling industry, and transferred to Navajo Metals, Calgary in 1998, advancing to management of operations for Alberta.

Neil maintained hope and a smile on his face while he waged a valiant fight against cancer for the past decade. In his final days, he shared memories of his youth, hockey, slow pitch, golf, travel, his love of cars, but mostly of his love for his family and friends. He savoured the time he spent with his beloved granddaughters; one of his very few regrets was not being able to see them grow up.

Neil’s impact on his family and friends was immense; his kindness, caring, giving, selflessness, sense of fun, his sincerity and respect for others, his determination and his tremendous love are an inspiration to us all. He will never be forgotten.

Neil is survived by his loving wife of forty-three years, life-long partner and best friend Cheryl; daughter Krista Bouchard (Kevin Hill) of Strathmore, AB; granddaughters Julianna and Natalie; brother Bob (Meta) Perry of Regina; sisters Donna (Larry) Hall of Buena Vista, SK, Deb (Daryl) Hubich, of Medicine Hat, AB; father-in-law Charles Stewart, of Regina, SK; and brother-in-law Lyle (Linda) Stewart, of Pense, SK. Neil is also survived by nieces and nephews, Mike (Diana) Hall, Steve Greenhough (Amanda Wilkinson), Kenton Hall (Angie Hipfner), Darryl (Melody) Hubich, Stephanie (Gabe) Batstone, Colin Hall (Sarah Garden), Alison (Sean) Sargent, Lee (Jessica) Stewart and their families. He will also be dearly missed by extended family, friends and co-workers. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Edith Perry; mother-in-law Verna Stewart; son-in-law Martin Bouchard; and infant nephew Christopher Hall.

A Celebration of Neil’s life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E. Calgary, AB) on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel (2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK) on Monday, December 23, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made payable to the University of Calgary Department of Oncology, memo: Surgical Oncology, address: Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 29th Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta T2N 4N2.

In living memory of Neil Perry, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: (403) 256-9575.

  7. Lorraine & Ron Bauer :

We would like to offer our sincerest sympathies and prayers to you Cheryl and your family. As a friend of Krista, I have heard so many wonderful stories of Neil over the years and witnessed the love & admiration that your daughter has for her father. Sitting with you last year at the Christmas concert was a highlight for me as I am able to remember the twinkle in Grandpa Neil’s eye when he saw Julianna perform with Natalie bouncing away on his knee. I am in awe of the strength he has shown his family during his illness and right up to the bitter end.
I pray that you find comfort in the memories and rich gifts he left behind, namely his daughter Krista who continues to be an inspiration for others.

    With love & friendship,
Lorraine, Ron and the Bauer Family
