Gerald (Gerry)Perks beloved husband of Julie of Calgary, passed away on Friday, July 20, 2012 at the age of 80 years.
Gerry was one of two children born to John William and Bernice Perks. He was born on December 9, 1931 in Montreal where he grew up.
In 1951, Gerry came to Claresholm, AB for officer’s flight training with the RCAF. For several years during the 50’s he worked for Mannix Construction in Calgary and in many small Alberta communities. In 1960, Gerry began his career in truck transportation with Trimac Transportation of Calgary, retiring in 1992. During those years he and his family lived in Edmonton, Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary. Gerry spoke often of his good fortune in working for two excellent Calgary family owned companies. During the 70’s in British Columbia, Gerry was active in the truck transportation industry as a Director of the BC Motor Transport Association and as Vice-Chairman of Transport Labour Relations. He was also active in the 60’s as President of the Active 20-30 Club in Calgary. In retirement, Gerry enjoyed a variety of volunteer activities, eight years working part-time with Hertz, RVing, a few cruises and visiting some of Europe.
Besides his loving wife Julie, Gerry is survived by son Jeffrey (Tobie); daughters Leigh (Kevin) Martin and Erin Perks (James Timchak); and grandchildren, Brittany, Justine, Alex, Julia, Morgan and Nicholas. He is also survived by Jeffrey’s mother Mary Perks; brother Bill (Trish) of Calgary, their daughter Rachel, and Bill’s son Jonathon (Jane) of Vancouver. He was predeceased by his parents.
