PERETZ, Leeron Haim

March 21, 1990 – Calgary, AB
September 24, 2013 – Calgary, AB

Leeron Haim Peretz passed away on September 24, 2013 at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary, AB. He lives on through his family which includes his mother Mickey Kolody, step father Ron Kolody, brother Ortal Peretz, father Yudha Peretz, grandmother Ruth Rosen, step brother Adi, step mother Smadar Peretz as well as his step siblings; Michael, Travis and Kimberly Kolody, as well as his girlfriend Ashley Gordon and a huge group of friends who are too numerous to mention.

Leeron had an undeniable charisma which touched everyone he met. He graduated from E.P. Scarlett in 2009. In his 23 years he lived a life fuller than most people could ever dream to have. His passion for a challenge made him a great example of a leader. From a very early age he took joy in the challenge of any sport and was eager to face any competition in hockey, skiing, lacrosse and basketball. Very opinionated, Leeron was able to sway anyone with his brilliant use of language. His strength and perseverance throughout life made him a light which was a privilege to experience. Leeron always fearlessly created his own path. In October 2011 he embarked on a trip around the world with a friend. His travels began in Mumbia, India where he blindly landed without any sure knowledge of what was to come. He later went on to meet his girlfriend Ashley in Thailand where they had an amazing month spontaneously traveling the country. Australia was last on his list which he spent eleven months continuing to shine his light into people’s lives. He was forced to return home early in November 2012 due to an unexpected diagnosis of cancer. He gallantly fought for ten months before succumbing to T-cell A-L-L Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Thursday September 26, 2013 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

A gathering to celebrate Leeron’s life will take place on Saturday September 28, 2013 at the family home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Leeron’s true passion was skiing. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Canadian Association for Disabled Skiing, 791 Strathcona Drive SW Calgary, AB T3H 1N8 www.disabledskiing.ca

In living memory of Leeron Peretz, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

Please accept our deepest love and sympathy in the enormous loss of Leeron. We did not even know he was ill. Becky ran into Leeron at Campers’ Village, just before he set off on his world adventure. She said he was so excited as he talked about where he might be headed. I remember being at your house in Woodbine where there hung a multitude of photographs of your two lovely boys. Prayers and serenity to all of you. Kerry, Ron, Becky and Sam

  10. I met and knew Leeron through my grandson Ty Koeller. He was a regular visitor to my home. He was a wonderful young man. I remember hugging him and wishing him well the night before he left for his holiday. Ty informed me this morning early from Vancouver that Leeron had passed. My heart aches for you. Ty regrets that he cannot come home to say good-bye. He was a cherished friend and Ty will always remember him.

My heartfelt sympathies go out to you all.

    Gail Koeller

  11. I remember the first time I really spent time with Leeron it was at Shambhala his first year, I had been many years before that year and helped him learn the ways of the festival a bit even though he was born for that place. With his costumes and face paint the thing that really stood out for me about Leeron was his smile, from ear to ear and so sincere. Im so glad to have met him, for what seemed like a short time will forever live on in my memory and heart. I so wish I could be there to pay my respects but am happy to know there will be a tree that will grow and stand strong, blow forever in the wind. I will visit that tree with face paint on and it will bring a smile to my face that I remember so fondly being on his.

  14. Yaki and Sisi Oz (Holon, Israel) :

We are in California visiting our daughter, and were wondering how you guys were doing when we stumbled upon Leeron’s memorial site while trying to look you up. We were shocked by the news of his death, and reading through his website brought up a lot of memories. I remember playing basketball with Leeron a day before your flight back to Calgary, like it was yesterday. It’s hard to find the right words to say. We know it can’t bring Leeron back.
    Please accept our deepest condolances.

Our heart goes out to you,
Sisi and Yaki Oz from Israel
