  2. Matt and I just wanted to send our condolences to you all. Uncle Abe was such a funny, gentle & kind man. I have many memories of him, like riding on his motorcycle when I was little. I remember seeing him many times throughout the years and he always had a warm, friendly smile on his face (and you knew a joke was never far away). He will be missed dearly. What a legacy he leaves behind. I am happy for the reunion with his parents and siblings that he is having now, though.
    Lots of love and hugs,
    Judy

  7. Dr. Ross & Bev Johnston :

We are very sorry and saddened to learn of Abe’s passing. We remember him from the first church Ross pastored in the 1980s, following seminary. Those Calgary East Church of the Nazarene days hold many special memories of Abe, Esther, Roseanne, Tom and Randy. Abe was always willing to play his guitar and sing beautiful songs of praise to the Lord. We appreciated his fine carpentry when he added a new guest room to our home. He was a happy and willing worker at the church and a friend to everyone.
It has been years since we’ve seen Abe, but we will never forget him and his kind, gentle spirit. Our love and condolences to dear Esther and all the family. May God comfort and bless you all. We are praying for you. “The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.” Deuteronomy 33:27a
With love, Pastor Ross and Bev – Surrey, BC

I have so many special memories of summers at Abe and Esther’s home. I loved Abe’s ready smile and warm brown eyes. We have not seen much of them in the past several years, but his memories will live on in all our lives.
I feel deeply saddened for my aunt Esther, and cousins Roseanne, Tom, and Randy. I know Their husband and father will be deeply missed.

  9. Terry and Barb Nelson :

I am deeply sorry for your loss. I was fortunate to meet “uncle Abe” when I was a brand new Christian. He was finishing my basement at the time and I spent many hours asking him questions and digging into the Bible. My young son spent much time as well “helping” uncle Abe with the reno’s. He was a wise and patient man. But most of all he was a joy to be around. We had such fun because he was always playing pranks. This world is not as nice a place now without Abe! May it bring you joy to know that so many people were blessed by his friendship.

    Esther,
Our sympathies to you and the rest of your family.
We have very fond memories of you and Abe from our years at Calgary East Church of the Nazarene like enjoying pie and ice-cream and singing/playing music together. Abe was Kevin’s (our son) first guitar teacher. His patience and positive attitude with this four year old boy definitely played a part in Kevin’s current career as a professional guitarist.
May you feel the strong arms of our loving father comforting and upholding you during this difficult time.

Keith and I want to pass our condolences along to our cousins Roseanne, Tom and Randy as well as Aunty Esther.
Uncle Abe will truly be missed. He was a man with many talents but his specialty was people. He always remembered what was going on in my life even though we did not see each other often and always showed interest. The last few times I saw him was at Home Depot- I was always glad to see him and get his 2 cents of help! He loved his wife, his children and especially his grandchildren. Perhaps because he was a child at heart. O how I have memories of him getting into trouble and laughing endlessly with his brothers. I love the memories of getting together with cousins while the aunts and uncles played instruments and sang until late. Abe and Esther loved to sing and play together. Goodbye for now.. We will miss your sweet smile.

  14. Bernie O'Reilly :

Abe Penner was my best friend and I never met a nicer person. He called me “Dad” and I called him “son” . It was a long-standing joke between us and we had a lot of laughs when we went to Arby’s. We were so happy when our wives became best pals as well and we enjoyed many good times together even after we had moved back to Ontario. He was always there for me. The only thing that makes me feel better is knowing that Abe has gone on to a much better place and that someday I hope we will meet again. Love to Esther and their wonderful family.

Tom, Randy, Roseanne (and families)– our condolences and love to you all. Our memories of your dad go way back. Reg had Uncle Abe as a teacher in the Hamburg school many moons ago. And I was privileged to be the flower girl at Abe and Esther’s wedding. I still have the dress!
We were blessed to spend precious hours with Abe and Esther a few months ago when Roseanne brought them out to Manitoba for a visit. Thanks for coming to see Mom and Aunt T.
    Love you; Bless you!

  17. We were very saddened to hear the news and want to send our condolences to Esther and the rest of the family. The words “his ability to befriend anyone and everyone he met and make everyone feel special”, really describe Abe. We as next door neighbors have had the privilege to get to know Abe. From the start he made us feel welcome in the neighborhood and helped with whatever he could. He was a very special man a one of a kind. The world needs more people like Abe.
    He will be sorely missed.
