PEERS, Robert (Bob) John

September 23, 1944 – Selkirk, MB
September 22, 2014 – Calgary, AB

Bob’s four year journey with lymphoma ended in peace and dignity at home with his loving wife and family the day before his 70th birthday.

Bob was born in Selkirk, MB and attended the University of Denver on a hockey scholarship. It was this love of hockey that brought he and Joyce to Calgary to play for the Calgary Spurs senior hockey team where he earned the nickname “Houdie”. He played hockey for a year in Innsbruck, Austria and continued to coach and play hockey throughout his lifetime.

He began his business career as a petroleum landman for various oil and gas companies with a change of careers for a period of time as owner of a Cruise Holidays franchise. Besides hockey, his other passions were skiing, hunting and fishing. He enjoyed watching all his grandchildren in their respective activities and was an avid and unconditional supporter. He was a member of CAPL and the Calgary Old Time Hockey Players Association.

His memory will be cherished and loved by his wife Dolli; his son and daughter-in-law Darren and Kelly Peers; daughter and son-in-law Diane and John Heavens; step-son and daughter-in-law Tony and Kelly Schneider; step-daughters and sons-in-law Kristen and Jeff Atkinson and Alison and Gregg Baragar; grandchildren, Wyatt Peers, Chase Peers, Ronald Heavens, Emily Schneider, Grace Schneider, Harleigh Atkinson, Sam Atkinson, Andy Atkinson, Jack Baragar, Braeden Baragar, and Trey Baragar; sister and brother-in-law Geraldine and Fred Trapp; niece Kari (Jeff) Olmstead; nephew Jeff (Stephanie) Trapp; great-nieces Andrea and Megan; and a large extended family. He was predeceased by his first wife Joyce, and parents Bunty and Anne Peers.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Private family interment at Edenbrook Memorial Gardens. 6. Stephanie Saunders :

Words don’t really do a person justice but I was sorry to hear of Bob’s passing or as I knew him 22 years ago “Mr. Peers”. Bob always was up for doing anything fun. I also remember him chuckling at us girls, over at his house, to sit on the lake and chase the boys. Or being amazed at how we could watch endless amounts of Tom Cruise movies. When we were older, Bob was always up for a beer and any conversation about sports. Mark recalled the great day they had golfing at John’s stag. We send our love to all of you during this most difficult time. Steph & Mark
