PAULSON, Clare Clifford

January 8, 1929 – September 2, 2012

Clare, loving husband, father, Grandfather, great-grandfather, artist and gardener extraordinaire, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at the age of 83.

Clare was born January 8, 1929 in Provost, Alberta then spent his school years living in Edmonton. Clare married the love of his life, Eileen on May 28, 1955, and relocated to Calgary where they shared a wonderful 57 years together.

After a successful 30 year career with Shell Oil, Clare retired to have time to devote to his favorite pastimes of taking care of his beloved Grandchildren, working on his many artistic pursuits and spending time in his favorite place – the garden! Clare also loved camping and spent many happy times camping with family and friends. He loved nothing better than sitting around the campfire roasting a piece of sausage! Clare’s keen sense of humor led to memorable practical jokes played on family and friends.

Clare adored his children and grandchildren. Affectionately known to his grandchildren as Papa, he had a great influence on their lives. He was a wonderful role model; sharing generously of his time, love, support, and wisdom. His legacy will live on in their hearts forever.

Clare is survived by his wife, Eileen, daughters Pam (Wayne) Novak, Patti Paulson (Pat Boyd), grandchildren Chris (Tara) Rindfliesch, Nichole (Jeff) Adshade, Alex Novak, great-grandchildren Lukas Rindfliesch, and Joshua Adshade, brothers David (Em) Paulson, and Larry Paulson; nephews Dave Paulson (Linda Gould), Garth (Charlene) Coles, and niece Shelley Lochhead (Dean Sinclair).

He is predeceased by his beloved granddaughter, Stephanie Novak, parents Lillian and Vernon Paulson, Sister Pauline and brother in Law Graham Coles, nephew Gord Coles.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Celebration of Clare’s life on Monday, September 10, 2012 at 1:00 pm at the Centre Street Church Main Campus Chapel (3900 – 2nd Street NE, Calgary, AB) with the Rev. Dr. Miriam Möllering, presider.

If so desired, memorial donations can be made to the Salvation Army Agape Hospice (1302 8th Avenue NW Calgary, AB T2N 1B8) or to the Centre Street Church.

Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Clare Paulson, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park, Cochrane.

Eileen and family — Bea and I join with you in mounring Clare’s death. He was man we greatly admired; not only for his dedication to his family but the genial and enthusiastic support he unfailingly gave to Eileen when she served as Executive Secretary at the Foothills Hospital. Clare was a master at crafts, a gentleman in all ways and someone who ‘fitted in’ with everybody.
Our prayers will join those of many others.

We never got to know Clare as well as we would have liked. But what we did know in that short time was that he was a kindred soul – a loving husband, father and grandfather, and we are sure that he was much much more.
Our thoughts are with his family. May your grief soon give way to loving thoughts and fond memories of a wonderful man.

How a day didn’t go by that I didn’t think of you both. I will never forget all the fun times we had together and how Clare taught me so patiently how to be crafty!
