Lovingly referred to as “Daddy”, Chandrahas was the first-born child of Chanchalben and Motibhai Govindbhai Patel’s 14 children. He was born in Machakos, Kenya in 1932, and got married and had three sons there. He immigrated to Canada in 1971 in order to provide better opportunities for his family. An accomplished businessman and a pioneer in the Western Canadian travel industry; Daddy was able to befriend complete strangers with nothing but a genuine smile and some Western hospitality.
Daddy is survived by his wife Sushila Patel; his three sons Mukesh, Kamlesh and Paresh; his daughters-in-law, Kalpna, Jayshree and Sandhya; his six grandchildren and their spouses, Amish and Arpana, Meera and Richard, Kunal and Amy, Anup, Vishaal, Shivani; and his two great-grandchildren, Maya and Rohan. Daddy is also survived by his five brothers and five sisters along with their extended family members. Daddy was predeceased by his two brothers Rajnikant and Rajan.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Rockyview General Hospital for their compassionate care for Daddy. We would like to especially thank the doctors, nurses, nursing assistants and the students in Unit 94 who often treated Daddy as though he was their own kin.
