PARSONS, Anne Mary (nee Gardner)

April 11, 1920 – London, Ontario
October 7, 2014 – Edmonton, Alberta

Anne Mary Parsons passed away at the age of 94. If ever anyone was worthy of the phrase “she lived a full life” it was Anne. Her love of life, her energy and her kindness touched so many people in so many ways.

Born in London, Ontario, Anne completed school and secretarial courses before going to England during World War II, where she served for the Canadian Red Cross overseas. Returning to London after the war, she married Conway Ernest Parsons and they had two sons, Alan and Jim. In 1961, the family moved west to Calgary. As assistant librarian at Henry Wise Wood and at E.P Scarlett High Schools, she shared her love of books and reading with hundreds of students over the years. She also fostered many enduring friendships, and for as long as she was able, made a point of keeping in touch with all her friends.

Anne is survived by her son Alan; daughter-in-law Joan; her beloved grandsons Graham and Scott; her sister Madeline; and her nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Ernie, son Jim and brother Jason.

A Memorial Service for Anne will be held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, 903 – 75 Avenue SW, Calgary (corner of Elbow Drive and 75th Ave) on Tuesday, October 14 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations may be made to Capital Care Grandview, c/o 6th Floor, 10909 Jasper Avenue, Edmonton, AB T5J 3M9. Condolence Messages

  1. Doug & Carol Kyle (Calgary) :

We were saddened to read of the passing of Anne Parsons. Anne was a friend through St. Peter’s Church in Calgary for many years. We worked together often through the ACW and Rummage Sales. She was always willing to help out and was an asset on any committee with her good ideas and plans. We will miss Anne but she will be remembered by all her dear friends.

  2. Dear Alan and Joan,

Seeing Anne’s picture and obituary brought back a flood of memories. Good memories. I will always remember her as the bright, interesting and interested lady and good friend I played bridge with and went to book club with; shared laughs with and family news with. I have missed her since she left us too many years ago. My thoughts are with you and your boys.

  3. Alan,

I’m sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. She and my own mother shared many good times on Hallbrook Place and even into their later years together in Trinity Lodge.
