PAROLIN, Alfeo (Alfred) Giuseppe

April 17, 1933 – Rosa, Vicenza, Italy
July 14, 2013 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Alfeo (Alfred) Parolin after a very brief and sudden illness. He passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 14, 2013, in the comfort of his family at the age of 80 years.

Born on April 17, 1933 in Rosa, Vicenza, Italy to parents Domenica and Francesco, Alfeo (Alfred) was the youngest of eight children. He immigrated to Canada in 1957, where he began his new life. Alfeo (Alfred) enjoyed tremendously being in the presence of others. In particular during his retirement was a strong, daily presence for our mom. Alfeo (Alfred) enjoyed activities related to the Italian community and the many relationships he made throughout the years. He was a proud member of the Calgary Alpini Association. His hard work ethic and values were important to him. His love for wine making and growing his garden were always evident. His presence will be one that will never be forgotten.

Alfeo (Alfred) leaves behind his most loving and cherished life partner of fifty-three years Margherita, together they have celebrated fifty-one years of marriage. He will always be fondly remembered by his daughter Frances (Fran); son Elvio; and most precious grandchildren, Spencer and Quinton. He had great, ongoing support in Calgary by Margherita’s family, being her two brothers and their families, Nicola and Domenica Labrocca and Domenico and Giulia Labrocca. He will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews in Calgary and Saskatchewan and cousins in Calgary. He is survived by only one remaining brother Gino and his family in Milan, Italy. As well, in Italy is mourned by numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Parish (formerly Our Lady of Grace Italian and English Catholic Church) (1714 – 14th Avenue N.E.) on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Mausoleum. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The family strongly requests that flowers be gratefully declined and if a memorial tribute is something you wish you make in memory of Alfeo (Alfred) please do so for the following charities, recent Flood Victims and the Red Cross www.redcross.ca, the Lung Association www.ab.lung.ca or the Alzheimer’s Society of Calgary www.alzheimercalgary.com. We would also like to thank our extended family, friends and colleagues for their ongoing love, support and tremendous kind words and actions. As well the support and high level of care and respect from the medical staff at the Peter Lougheed Centre in Emergency and in Unit 39 Palliative Care. A tremendous thank you to all the staff at the Care West Fanning Centre, for their understanding and ongoing care for our mom and dad.

In living memory of Alfeo Parolin, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park Cochrane by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, Telephone: 403-276-2296.

Condolence Messages

  1. Joe and Maria Wood :

Margherita and family: Our sincerest condolences to you on the passing of Alfeo.

We will always remember the good times at Mamma’s house. He always had something to say to get me into a debate, and I always ended up laughing instead of debating. I also enjoyed watching him get Mamma going. He knew just what “button” to push to bug her.

Mamma and Mario send their love to you, and unfortunately cannot attend the funeral as they are presently away.

May God keep you close in this very sad time. Love you all

Joe and Maria Wood, Clara Bacchiega, and Mario DeBenedetti

  2. Debra Bacchiega :

One of the things I remember most was Alfeo’s booming voice and laughter. I remember when I was dating my husband thinking that Renato should take me home as I thought the italians were fighting. My husband replied they’re not fighting that’s just Alfeo. What an excited booming voice and presence Alfeo had in our lives.

He will be dearly missed. We wish his family sincere love and cherished memories.
