July 25 1921 – January 9, 2010
It is with much love the family of George Thomas Parkinson announces his passing after a courageous struggle with pulmonary disease, on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at the age of 88 years.
George was born in Hamiota, Manitoba on July 25, 1921 to Thomas George Parkinson and Elizabeth Lavinia Evans. He spent much of his younger years in Raymore, Saskatchewan. George joined the Air Force in WWII and served as a navigator and wireless operator. He was a member of the Ferry Command and helped transport planes across the Atlantic to the war theatre. This gave him the opportunity to travel. It was an amazing adventure for a young man from the prairies. George married Delena Irene Oviatt on February 6, 1943. Together they had four children. George was a hard worker and took his role as a father and husband very seriously. Both George and Delena gave many hours of service to family, friends, community and church. They spent the last forty-five years living in Calgary and were faithful members of the Bow Valley Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints.
George is predeceased by his sweetheart, Delena Irene Parkinson. He is survived by his four children Doris Wood (Clark), Leslie Walker, Howard Parkinson (Linda), and Kevin Parkinson. ‘Gramps’ was very proud of his seventeen grandchildren and his thirty-six great-grandchildren. He will be lovingly missed by each and every one of them.
Memorial Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bow Valley Chapel (2526 – 24 Ave N.W.; on the corner of Crowchild Tr. and 24 Ave. N.W.) on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. You may forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
