Having lived life to the fullest, Raymond Parkins passed away at the Foothills Hospital on Thursday, November 9, 2006 at the age of 88
Ray was born November 8, 1918 on a homestead near Scollard, AB and was proud of his rural heritage. As a member of the Calgary Highlanders he was wounded in overseas combat duty during WWII. He met and married his first wife Joyce in England and they returned to Canada for his convalescence. Ray lived a life devoted to his family, church and community and was well respected in his professional career with the Federal Government. This career took him to Ottawa and then back to Calgary. He was active with Confederation Park Seniors Centre and the SPCA, having served as president of both organizations. As well, he was active in the Royal Canadian Legion and the Masonic Lodge. Ray enjoyed sports and was a talented softball player and curler. During their 17-year marriage, Ray and Mickie enjoyed dancing, traveling, volunteering and family gatherings.
Ray will be missed by his loving wife, Mildred (Mickie); son, John (Glenda); daughter, Avril Williamson; brother, Norman (Dorothy) of Edmonton; step-daughters Shonnie Dean (Richard) and Debbie Kormos (Rod); sisters-in-law, Marguerite Parkins of Victoria; and Mary Parkins of Turner Valley; grandsons, Michael (Vicky) & Brent Parkins and Ryan (Shauna), Scott & Jeff Williamson; great-grandchildren, Caimbree Williamson and Elliot Parkins. He was predeceased by his parents, six brothers and his first wife of forty-four years, Joyce.
