PALMER, George Craig

February 13, 1949- August14, 2012

George left this plane of existence after a courageous battle with heart disease. Survived by his soul mate of 43 years Jackie, sister in law Donna (Murray), brother Cameron (Jan) nieces Terra (Duane) and Kimberly (Simon) and Cousin Katherine and his loyal walking pal Stuart.

George touched the lives of many as a husband, brother, uncle, son, friend, mentor, father figure and business partner. His involvement in the newspaper industry for over 40 years, together with Jackie, garnered great pride and joy as they built Jackie Palmer Distributors, Purveyors of the Printed Word. The relationships formed here have become like that of a second family.

Philanthropy, travel, photography and golf were some of George’s many passions, The Calgary Foundation, Variety Club and Heart to Heart were but a few. Another being the hospital visits where he talked to heart patients battling with some of the same issues he had overcome. George and Jackie traveled to many corners of world but Wasa Lake and the Motorhome became their homes away from home. Spiritual travel took George to Sedona Arizona where he met Shaman Clay to help find peace and guidance.

A Celebration of George’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. 4. Wendy and Rob Armstrong :

George was the first neighbour we met when we moved to Calgary in 1999.
Over the years, we have enjoyed countless daily walks with George, Jackie and Stu ‘The Tude’. On warm summer days and frigid winter nights, we would walk our dogs together along the path overlooking the beautiful river valley. The dogs always watched out the window for George or ran to his back gate because he always had treats for them; he was not deluded about why they loved him. George was a daily fixture in our lives. We will miss seeing him and Stu walking up the path, with dog treats and cheerful chats over the fence.
Happily, we still have Jackie, who has taken up treat and chat duty. With Stuart, of course.
Goodbye George, good neighbour and friend. We will always think of you when we take the dogs walking along the path overlooking the beautiful river valley.

  5. My condolences on the passing of George at too young an age. I got to know George and Jackie starting 29 years ago at my convenience store in Strathmore, and enjoyed working with both of you. At all times professional, enthusiastic, really cared for their customers and dedicated to their success, thank you!

  9. Jackie, Donna and family,

I was very sad to learn about George’s passing. We knew that he was having some recent challenges with his health but always expected that somehow George would find a way through it.
I know this leaves a hole in your lives but please know that there are many others in your world who feel the same and share your grief. George was certainly one of a kind. A true character and a man of dignity and honor, impressive business acumen and wisdom. There will always feel like something missing at Stampeder games without George sitting in the aisle of row 10 in Section U.

Our hearts go out to you all.

    Mark and Michila

  10. For George Palmer George, you really piss me off! The last time we spoke it was about a winner take all golf game in Fernie. I will miss losing to you my old friend but we can do it somewhere in the future and I hope it is not in hell. You were there when I needed someone back in 2000 and I have never forgot your words of peace and encouragement. May the wings of a thousand angels raise you up!!! Your old buddy Butch
