May 25, 1941 – April 10, 2012
Bill passed suddenly into the arms of our Lord on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, surrounded by his family.
Bill was born in Harbour Buffet, NFLD on May 25, 1941, the youngest son of William and Elizabeth Pafford. Bill made his way west in his younger years and dutifully served the Federal government (NRCC) before moving on to serve the Calgary Police Force for twenty years until his retirement in 1988. Although he made his life in the west, he remained true to his Newfie roots and remained an avid fisherman right up until his passing. Bill was happiest spending time at the family cabin on beautiful Mabel Lake, BC. Bill, Laura and the family have been building special memories at the cabin since 1987. The babies (grandchildren) came to the lake and grew up in grandpa’s boat, learning how to fish and play cards, playing crib and tubing. Grandpa was “King of the Lake” when it came to passing down fishing tips and water fun. There was never a grandfather more dedicated to being the “best grandpa ever” than grandpa Bill! Grandpa’s motto – “the worst day fishing is better than the best day working”, and “Oh, Charlie Brown” ….. Grandpa loved showing off his musical talent playing the spoons (a Newfie tradition), and the famous Ugly Stick …. Keeping the younger generation in awe of such unique talent! Yes, a finer grandfather and step-father there never was. His patient teachings and love will be carried on through his children and grandchildren. We will hold you close in our hearts forever.
“Life can only be understood backwards,
but it must be lived forwards.”
Bill is survived by his wife Laura; Bill’s son Glenn (Lynn) Pafford of Ontario; his three step-daughters, Shelley (Doug) Shierman of Kathyrn, Shawna (Keith) Church of DeWinton, and Jody (Barry) Hargraves of Calgary; sister Maisie Allen of Ottawa; and the grandchildren he so adored, Jordan of Houston, TX, Jeryn, Amber (Jurgen); great-grandson Noah of Kathyrn, Jenna, Jake, Alisha, Jaycie; and many nieces, nephews and relatives. Bill was predeceased by his parents and older brothers, Thomas and Basil.
To honour Bill’s wishes, a celebration of his life will be held at Mabel Lake, BC in a private family service. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
