PADLEY, Gordon Barry

November 24, 1941 – October 26, 2012

With the fulfillment in his heart of having been blessed with a large extended family, many friends and mentors, and having known love, Gordon Barry Padley peacefully passed away on October 26, 2012.

Born on November 24, 1941 in Saskatoon, Barry lived his first nine years with his parents (Gordon and Leonie) and brother (Jim) in Saskatchewan; thereafter moving, as a family, to Calgary where he lived for almost the rest of his life. He was a Chartered Accountant, by profession, yet spent most of his career as an Oil & Gas Executive. Although he was proud of and dedicated to his career, and gave praise to those who helped nurture it, Barry was a very caring and compassionate man who happily made time for his family, numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. He belonged to a variety of organizations (the Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Canadian Progress Club, Calgary Downtown, and the Knights of Columbus) to which he gave much time and energy, and also met many life-long friends. Barry was bestowed with the Founders’ award “In Recognition of Exemplary Service to Uncle’s At Large”.

Later in life, Barry was an active member of St. Gerard’s Parish; through which he became involved with the Inn From the Cold ministry, the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Resurrection Choir. He also embraced the fellowship of Bible Study offered at St. Gerard’s. He felt at home with the people he met at St. Gerard’s and they, like so many others, helped to ease his distress as his memory began to fail.

Family was always a top-priority in Barry’s life, he always found something special and interesting in everyone and tried to bond with each member of his family even with those encountered through genealogy.

He is survived by his beloved wife Sheila, three children (Michael, Sean and Barbara), four grandchildren (Emerson, Nicole, Claire and Samuel), one brother, three cousins, fourteen brothers and sisters-in-law, and thirty nieces and nephews. Sadly, Barry was predeceased by both his parents, his cousin Leila Jacka, and his brothers-in-law Bob Williamson and Ed Wilkins.

We would like to thank all the staff at Carewest Rouleau Manor for their tender care over the last seven months. To all friends and family: your faces, names and nuances were deeply etched in his heart please remember him through yours.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church (8944 Elbow Drive S.W.) today, November 2, 2012 at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church (8944 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. 9. I knew Barry when I was a student in accounts at Deloittes. When I decided to leave Calgary and return to Lethbridge to continue my career Barry was very supportive of my decision. I considered him to be my mentor while I was at Deloittes and I am very thankful for the knowledge and counsel he provided before I left. My thoughts are with the family.
