OVERBY, Stanley (Stan) Ernest

November 15, 1920 – November 4, 2013

Stan Overby, beloved husband of Marjorie of Calgary, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2013 at the age of 92 years.

Stan was born in Oyen, AB and received his elementary and junior high school training in a one room schoolhouse in Helmsdale, followed by high school in Cereal, AB. He attended the University of Alberta (Calgary Campus), graduating with a B. Ed with distinction. After graduation, Stan worked as a teacher for both the Acadia School and Taber School Divisions. In 1952, he commenced teaching at SAIT in his chosen speciality of mathematics. More than twenty years later he retired as Dean of Technology and Trades.

Stan enjoyed many hobbies including camping, square dancing, trout fishing and winemaking, but his favourite was his pursuit of ham radio. He and his beloved Marjorie spent eighteen winters in Mesa, AZ before returning to permanent residency in Calgary in 1994.

Stan is survived by his loving wife Marjorie, with whom he spent sixty-six enjoyable years together.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Monday, November 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow in the Garden of Heritage at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens. I am certain that it was only through his interesting and comprehensive instruction that many of us completed our PITA/SAIT program and enjoyed successful careers.
