OSTERBERG, Millicent Ross

October 27, 1935 – September 9, 2012

On Sunday, September 9, 2012, Millicent Osterberg our beautiful wife, mother, sister and friend went to heaven peacefully after a 15 year battle with cancer.

Millie’s incredible spirit, generosity, hard work and infectious laughter charmed everyone who was lucky enough to know her. Her innate interest and love of people led her to travel every continent on the globe, and her passion for family, sports, music, theatre and bridge kept her always joyous and fulfilled.

Celebrating her life and all she did for us are her husband Arne; daughters Kathryn and Margaret; sons-in-law Neil Evenson and Ross Clendening, her amazing granddaughters Nika and Grace, and her sisters Margaret (Bernt) Brauer and Jacqueline Siegfried, along with many treasured nieces, nephews and cousins, and her wonderful friends. She was predeceased by her mother Myrtle Hawken, father John Brocklebank Hawken; her precious grandson Arne Donald, her parents-in-law Waldemar and Ida Osterberg, and brother-in-law Alvar Osterberg.

Thank you so much, Millie and Mom. We love you always.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) Today, September 13, 2012, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

A Celebration of Millie’s Life will be held at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church (1611 St. Andrew’s Place N.W.) on Saturday, September 15, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. We would like to gratefully thank all the people who gave Mille such terrific care and compassion on her journey including Dr. Sy Lam, Dr. Ghatage, the incredible staff and friends at Sarcee Hospice, and especially Auntie Jacquie and Auntie Marg who were unflagging in their support and love. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Millie may be sent directly to Sarcee Hospice, (Att: Marnie 3504 Sarcee Road S.W., Calgary, AB T3E 4T4) Alberta Theater Projects Society, (220 – 9 Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB T2G 5C4), or the charity of your choice.

In living memory of Millicent Osterberg, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.

We are very sad that we’ve lost such a good long time friend as Millie. She was always there when needed. A true friend for life. Her smile and her laughter will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

Sherry and I are very sorry that we can not attend Millie’s Celebration of Life due to a very contagious flu we have both contacted.

Please accept our sincerest sympathies and condolences on Millie’s passing. Bob’s niece Margaret Brauer has kept us informed on Millie’s fight with cancer, and we were delighted to learn that it had seemed to be in remission, but that was not to be.

We have lost a unique and special lady this Sept. 9th. She had a true zest for life and passed this on to all who knew her. Never did she ask for sympathy, but rather took each day in its stride and always found the positive in any given situation. When being told that her time left was limited, her first priority was to get her dear Arne settled into a home where he would be less dependant on her presence and organizational skills. Could we all have such an calm, unselfish attitude , the world would be a better place. May she rest in peace.

  16. Betty Cunningham :

to Arne and the family of Millie Hawken Osterberg, Just today I decided to find Millie and Arne – I remembered they moved to Wetaskiwin. Millie worked at the Insect Lab in Sault Ste Marie when I was a technician there and Millie was a student (was it 1958? 7?). We used to give her a ride home and she would laugh the whole way at our old truck. How I remember her infectious laugh – I can still hear it! What a pity that I did not make contact a few years ago. My condolences – so late in coming – but never the less so heartfelt! Bless you all. Betty White Cunningham
