Osterbauer, Herbert (Herb)

Herb Osterbauer, beloved husband of Joan Osterbauer of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at the age of 81 years.

Herb was born in High River, AB, the third child of Edward and Beatrice Osterbauer. The family moved to Calgary when Herb was still a small child. He grew up in the communities of Tuxedo and Bankview, attending Sunalta School before moving to Vancouver at the age of fifteen.

After attending King George High School, Herb served in the Army prior to starting a career in sales in the industrial stainless steel industry. Herb was a graduate of the UBC Sales Management Course. In 1973, Herb changed pursuits and began a successful career as a Stock Broker with Pemberton Securities.

Never idle, Herb retired from Pemberton’s in 1984 and embarked upon a career as a picture framer from a studio in his home in West Vancouver. Herb’s son, Ron joined his Dad in the business and still owns and operates Bauer’s Framing and Art in West Van. Herb finally welcomed retirement in 1999 and relocated to Calgary.

Herb’s main focus and love was for his family, especially the love of his life, Joan, who he married in 1953 and was devoted to for fifty-five years.

In addition to his loving wife Joan, Herb is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Donna-Lynn Osterbauer of North Vancouver, BC; and his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Lorne Rackel of Calgary. Herb is also survived by his four grandchildren; Brooke, Jordan, Leah, and Morgan; his sister Molly in Creston; his brother Gordon in Port Coquitlam; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Dan in 1985.
