Vivian Osborne (nee Wilcox) was born April 10, 1918 in Calgary and died October 13, 2013 at the age of 95.

She will be missed by her surviving eight children; Carol Robinson, Judith Osborne, Kathleen Cairns, Margaret James (Alan), Daniel Osborne, Christine Osborne, Keith Osborne (Lori) and Steven Osborne (Kate Hatfield-Osborne), as well as her sister Jessie Gordon and her brothers; David Wilcox (Kay) and John Wilcox (Marietta).

She was predeceased be her husband Lester and her son Richard (Alison) as well as one brother and three sisters.

Vivian took great interest in her twenty-one grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren and delighted in keeping track of their activities and achievements. Vivian placed a very high value on education. She started university in her forties after the youngest of her children was born and went on to teach and develop school libraries for the Calgary Board of Education from 1962 to 1983. Following her retirement, she travelled widely and was active in many social issues, including being a founding member of the Canada Cuba Friendship Association and working on behalf of refugee doctors.

A Celebration of Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Friday, October 18, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vivian Osborne Bursary Fund, University of Calgary Development Office, 2500 University Drive N.W. Calgary, AB, T2N 1N4 or to STARS Air Ambulance
