O’QUINN, Paul David

April 16, 1969 – North Sydney, NS
October 10, 2014 – Calgary, AB

With deep sadness we are mourning the loss of our son, father, friend and partner, Paul David O’Quinn, age 45.

Paul was born in North Sydney, Nova Scotia on April 16, 1969 to David and Patrice (Scott) O’Quinn. He grew up in North Sydney, and lived outside of Toronto for a few years, before calling Calgary his home in 1998.

He was an active member of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners local 2103 for sixteen years, and has worked with Aluma Systems and most recently as a General Foreman at the Exshaw LaFarge location.

He was an avid musician, with a great sense of humour and wit. Paul was artistic and creative. He enjoyed singing, and playing various instruments, including most notably the guitar. His love of music and playing was something many will remember about Paul.

He is survived by his son Samuel O’Quinn, his partner Katie Winsor, parents Dave and Patrice O’Quinn and sister Renee (O’Quinn) Luedey.

This has been a rough time for all of us with Paul’s sudden and heartbreaking passing. He will be forever loved and always missed.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Jubilee (Branch #286 5 – 1107 33 Street N.E.), on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 1:30 pm. A funeral and memorial will also be also held in North Sydney, Nova Scotia, at a later date. All friends and loved ones are welcomed to attend. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Paul O’Quinn, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: 403-256-9575.

Please accept my sincere condolences on your loss. While I haven’t seen Paul since our teenage years, I remember him as a guy with a kind heart and ready smile, his fingers always tapping out the beat of a song that only he could hear. His warmth and genuine friendliness could be felt in his presence, and there was no favor too great for his giving nature. Praying that you feel surrounded by the support of friends, and the love of family at this sorrowful time.

  10. Stephen Brazil :

I am sorry to learn about the loss of your son, friend, partner and father. As an executive of the UBCJA local 2103 and a fellow co-worker of Paul, I offer my condolences to you and your family. Paul was a great person and an outstanding member. He always tried to help people out and I know stories which members have shared that they said Paul was their first journeyman to take the time to teach. This quality alone makes a journeyman stand out among the rest. His teachings will be passed down for years to come.

    May he Rest In Peace.
    Sincerely. Stephen Brazil.
    Executive Trustee of Local 2103
