June 28, 1951 – May 11, 2013
Fay Beverly Oppenheim neé Orelowitz passed away peacefully on May 11, 2013 in Calgary after a so very brave fight with cancer. Born in South Africa, she moved to Alberta as a young married woman. During the first ten years in her new country, Fay and her growing family lived in Valleyview, Edmonton, Evansburg and Strathmore before settling in Calgary in 1985. Charming and funny; a wonderful wife, mother, family member, community volunteer and friend; her large and loving family is her legacy.
Predeceased by her father, Joe Orelowitz, she is deeply mourned by her husband Claude, sons Joe (Robyn), Rob (Maria), Mark (Jenn) and David; her mother Bertha Orelowitz and brother Stan (Janys) of South Africa, and her brother Jerry of Israel. Fay was “Savta” to four grandchildren, who she loved deeply: Samuel, Noah, Sadie and Natalia. She will be sadly missed by her extended family and her friends. She earned the trust of her insurance and education plan clients, who she served with the utmost integrity. The family would like to thank the many people, medical professionals and others, who helped Fay deal with her illness, and to live so well for as long as it was possible.
Funeral Services will be held at the Jewish Memorial Chapel, (North East Corner of Highway 22X & 37th Street S.W.) Today, Monday, May 13, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Beth Tzedec Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Calgary Jewish Academy or Canadian Hadassah-WIZO (CHW). Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
