Giovanni Olivito of Calgary, AB passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at the age of 89 years.
Giovanni Olivito was born in San Giovanni in Fiore, Italy and moved to Locarno, Switzerland after meeting his beloved wife Caterina (Titina) Olivito; there they raised their children Pietro and Teresa. During his time in Switzerland, Giovanni worked as a mosaic artist and tile setter. His work gave him the opportunity to travel to various parts of Europe, including Germany, Austria, Holland, Belgium, and France.
In 1968, Giovanni and his family immigrated to Canada, and he continued to work as a tile setter for many years while growing and supporting his family.
Giovanni had a passion for family. He loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed growing tomatoes in his garden, making homemade red wine, and watching the odd boxing match while sipping on a rum and Coke.
Giovanni is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Teresa and Sam Cortese; son and daughter-in-law Pietro and Antonia Olivito; grandchildren Caterina and Biagio Veltri, Giovanni Olivito, Gregorio and Christine Cortese, Jordana and Jordan Giustini; thirteen great-grandchildren; as well as his sister Maria Lopez. He was predeceased by his wife Caterina (Titina) Olivito in 2011.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (640 – 19th Avenue N.W.) on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 11:00a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Mausoleum. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
