OLDFIELD, Michael John (Mike)

OLDFIELD, Michael John (Mike)

April 25, 1935 –December 12, 2011

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing on Monday, December 12, 2011 of Mike Oldfield, beloved husband of Shirley (née Munro) and warm and caring father of Tara.

Born in Southampton, England, Mike attended Wellesborne Grammar School in Warwickshire. Subsequent to volunteering in the RAF and completing his three year service, Mike immigrated to Canada where he spent the greater part of his working years in the oil patch in the accounting departments of several Calgary oil and gas companies. Mike enjoyed life and derived great pleasure from meeting and talking with people of all ages and backgrounds. He was genuinely interested in others and they, in turn, responded to his sincerity. At various stages of his life, he might be found skiing at Sunshine or watching his favorite skier, Tara, competing in some downhill race; or bowling in one of the local alleys; or perhaps, in later years, golfing at Vulcan. Favorites among his spectator sports were hockey, car racing and football. Attending productions at Theatre Calgary and Stage West were on his regular “to do” list, as, of course, was playing the occasional hand of bridge with friends.

Mike will forever remain in that special part of the hearts of his family that is reserved for those we love. Mike is survived by his brother Roger (Magda), niece Susan and family. He was predeceased by his father Norman Oldfield and his mother Betty (née Henchman).

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Thursday December 15, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
