Louise Bernice O’Brien passed away in the company of the people she loved on Sunday, August 10, 2008 at the age of 87 years.
Louise was born in Kamsack, SK to new Canadian immigrant parents from Italy and the Ukraine. Her roots were both a source of pride and inspiration to her. Louise worked as a legal and land secretary for Shell Canada until her retirement, at which time she enrolled in and graduated with honours from SAIT’s Culinary Arts Program. She had a catering business for fifteen years, and as recently as last week was baking her special biscotti for her friends and family. Louise was a generous and proud Calgarian who donated to causes benefitting women and children at risk. Although she was on a fixed income for years, her commitment to the less fortunate was always a priority to her. Louise loved to cook, bake, and garden and to bestow upon all her friends her wonderful fare and garden produce.
Louise will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Sheila O’Brien and son-in-law Kevin Peterson; her adopted and much loved daughter Barbara Guthrie; special friends Morris and Polly Pratt, Tony, Barbara and Patrick El-Moussa, and Jane and Tim McCarroll, and by numerous friends and Florentino family relatives from Winnipeg and Amato, Cantanzaro, Italy. She was predeceased by her husband Paddy, daughter Denise, and by her mother Olga Florentino all in 1975.
