OAKE, Fredrick (Fred) David

October 8, 1943 – November 20, 2012

Fredrick (Fred) David Oake beloved husband of Margaret left us peacefully on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at the age of 69 years.

Fred was born in Fogo Island, Newfoundland. He served in the army, then moved to Ontario where it was there that he met his beautiful wife Margaret and had their two children Colleen and David. Fred was keen with the kids and their involvement with sports. He loved to fish, waterski, skydive and was willing to do any sort of handy-man work for all of his neighbours. He was known around his neighbourhood as the snow-angel.

Fred loved life and loved to make others laugh. He definitely had a gift of making people smile.

Besides his loving wife Margaret of forty-six years, he will be greatly missed and cherished by his children Colleen and David; his grandson Jason; along with his brothers and sisters, Ida, Harold (Jean), Bill (Carol), Lloyd (Marcella), Marie (Hal), Ruby (Jay), Audrey (Mal), Janice (Garry), Wallace (Myra (Randy); and numerous nieces and nephews. Fred will be sadly missed by his family and all who knew him. He was predeceased by his brother Neil; mother Alice; father Fred; and daughter-in-law Rhonda Ann Oake.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Saturday, November 24, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Name Catholic Church (2223 – 34th Street S.W.) on Monday, November 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to a charity of the donor’s choice.

In living memory of Fred Oake, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: (403) 256-9575.

So sorry to hear of the passing of your husband and father, Fred. I had the pleasure of working with Fred at Olympic Heights School, where his laughter will fill the halls. He was always lending a hand to anyone who needed a little help that day, and of course in true Fred spirit, would add a little joke to liven the moment. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. Take care of each other. Terry Tobin

  16. Marg, Colleen and Dave,
I am saddened by the news. Growing up Fred was one of those adults that became the blueprint in my brain on how I would treat the friends of my sons. He showed humour, compassion, guidance and respect to all us little rats hanging around the Oake house. The world now has a little less humour and fun without him, we must make sure we tell a few extra jokes and laugh a little more to fill the hole he left behind. He will be missed by all. My condolences to the entire family, be strong.
    Jason

  17. Aunt Marg, Colleen & Dave,

We were so very sad to hear the news … even though I saw Uncle Fred so rarely back home in Newfoundland, my memories always were and always will be very special. His big smile and even bigger laugh were endearing, somehow standing out even in a room full of loud, laughing Oakes. He was always ready with a joke or quip to make me smile, whether I was a little kid or “grown-up”. Having met him only once, my wife Susan and baby girl Emma were both endeared to him immediately – a reflection of his wonderful, loving and bright personality. We are saddened by his loss, and helpless that we are so far away from Aunt Marg during this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you …
