NORMAN – Garry Raymond

November 13, 1962 – August 2, 2009

Garry Raymond Norman of Calgary passed away at the Peter Lougheed Centre in Calgary, AB, on Sunday, August 2, 2009 at the age of 46 years.

Garry was born on November 13, 1962 in Toronto, ON. Garry was the entertainer. Garry’s passion was to sing, dance and act. He lit up a room when he walked in with his smile, laughter and an uncanny ability for comic impressions to bring smiles to everyone who had the pleasure of Garry’s company. Garry was a historian, with an amazing memory for political, sports and music trivia. An entrepreneur at heart, Garry’s magnetic personality and dedicated work ethic contributed to the success of a Victoria, BC based commercial lease finance business called Admiralty Leasing. Garry put his heart and soul into this company for fifteen years. Garry’s other passions were the thirst for adventure, traveling the world and playing goal tender for the Admirals hockey team. Some of Garry’s favorite destinations included England and the Caribbean. Garry dearly loved his two young children and they will have the pleasure of Garry’s memory through the many wonderful stories, life gifts and contributions that Garry has inspired. Garry always had incredible strength and a zest for life and valiantly battled an immune comprised condition for six years.

Garry’s death is sadly mourned by his wife Carrie; children, William and Danielle; mother Phyllis; brothers, Kevin (Lourine), Glenn (Michelle); sister Roma Mollins (Tim), their respective families; and in-laws Ott and Doris Zelko who did so much for Garry.

Garry’s sharp wit, great smile and gentle soul will be profoundly missed by his family and friends. We take solace in the fact that he joins those he admired and respected, father Ray, Uncle Don, beautiful niece Rhea and dear cousin Martin Staples.
A private family celebration of his life will be held in Calgary. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation at c/o Tribute Program, 938 West 28th Avenue, Vancouver, BC V5Z 4H4, Telephone: (604) 875-2444 or directly to the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation, 2888 Shaganappi Trail N.W., Calgary, AB T3B 6A8, Telephone: (403) 955-8818. The family would like to send a heartfelt thank-you to all of the allied healthcare professionals that provided healthcare excellence to Garry in both Victoria, BC and at the Peter Lougheed Centre in Calgary. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Garry Norman, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E., CALGARY, AB Telephone: 1-800-661-1599.

  15. I express my heartfelt condolences to the Norman family, Carrie, William and Danielle. I had met this very astute and distinguished man in 1997 and right away I new there was something special about him. His brilliant intelligence, charming deameanor and passion for everything in life was an inspiration to me. Garry and Carries commitment to their business was second to non. It was hard to track him down because of his schedule but when we did meet for coffee or lunch it was always an interesting and global conversation. His passion for hockey is where I fit in as we were teammates on the Admirals hockey club. Oh and yes the best of friends away from the rink. I will never forget his unselfish giving and great sense of humour. He was a great role model for myself and has given me inspiration for my own life. I feel very priviledged and blessed to have met and became good friends with Garry. May the winds of time guide you on your new voyage. Goodbye my friend.
