October 8, 1930 – Copenhagen, Denmark
December 29, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta
John Otto Nielson beloved husband of Inga Nielson of Calgary, passed away on December 29, 2014 at the age of 84 years.
John immigrated to Canada, from Denmark in his early twenties as a journeyman butcher. Shortly thereafter, he married his childhood sweetheart, Inga, whom he knew and loved since grade school. John had incredible career success, despite his humble roots, and led a number of meat packing companies in both Canada and the United States. He semi-retired twice, and during those periods, was self-taught in his pursuit of farming and ranching in Alberta locations including Okotoks, Cremona and Priddis. His absolute determination and can-do attitude carried him through the many adventures and challenges throughout his life. John was very passionate and caring about family and he extended so much kindness and generosity upon all of us. An amazing and accomplished man, whose strength, wisdom and love will be deeply missed by his entire family.
Besides his loving wife Inga, John is survived by three daughters, Linda Craig (Bill), Janice Kendall, Susanne Nearing (John); four grandchildren, Devon Kendall, Gianna Craig, Sarah Nearing, and Jack Nearing; one great-grandson Bentley Kendall-Herman; two sisters Inger Thim and Elsa Knudsen, both of Denmark; and brother-in-law Bent Lorentzen of Brooklyn, NY.
A Celebration of John’s Life will be held at a later date. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
