Nic Nicolay, beloved husband of Mrs. Doris Nicolay of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday March 6, 2007, at the age of 86 years. Nic blessed us by always encouraging us to engage our minds as well as our hearts, inspiring us to find our voice and to be heard. Nic had a profound impact on those who knew him and we will all carry a part of him forever. He is loved with love beyond all telling and missed with grief beyond all tears.
Nic was born on January 27, 1921, in Oak Point, Manitoba, and was raised in Norwood, Winnipeg. He served his country in WWII with the Fort Garry Horse from 1939 to 1945 and was awarded the Military Cross for valour. After the war Nic served with Lord Strathcona’s Horse and retired in the rank of Major. He also volunteered as the founding editor of the Strathcona Regimental Newsletter for thirteen years and was employed with the City of Calgary as Manager of Human Resources Development Division from 1969 to 1985. Nic loved golfing, skating, cross country skiing, fishing and billiards.
Besides his loving wife Doris, Nic is survived by his children, Bob (Terra), Perry (Fiona), Sheila (Guy) and Janice; his grandchildren, Allison, Scot, Michelle, Heather, Brandon, Fiona and Pedro; his great-grandchildren, Kelton, Nicole and Matthew.
