Florrie Nichol of Calgary passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at the age of 98 years.
Florrie was born February 11, 1913 on the family farm situated north of the village of Bagot, MB. She attended elementary school in the one room schools of Bagot and Mountain View school near Neepawa, MB. Florrie attended high school in Bagot and then Portage La Prairie, MB. After attending the Success Business School in Winnipeg Florrie worked for a law firm in Portage La Prairie and the Department of National Defense at MacDonald, MB, Victoria, BC and Calgary, AB. Florrie was the first full time RN to retire from the Foothills General Hospital in 1980. During Florrie’s nursing school days she became interested in genealogy. Florrie’s search in compiling the Nichol genealogy of the “John Nichol Line” led to a collaboration with Marlene Baker who was compiling the Nichol genealogy of the “Robert Nichol Line” to produce the “Nichol Book” which traces the Nichol genealogy from 1799 in Northern Ireland to the state of New York and then to Canada. Over the years Florrie loved to travel. Her journeys took her too many parts of the world including the United Kingdom, Russia, Jerusalem, the Orient, Australia and New Zealand as well as many parts of Canada and the United States of America. Florrie enjoyed hiking, snow shoeing and Scottish Country Dancing.
Florrie is survived by two brothers Cecil of Portage La Prairie, MB and Howard of Comox, BC, and many nieces and nephews. Florrie was predeceased by one sister and six brothers.
