NEWSTATER, Irene Glenora (nee Miller)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Irene on Friday, June 7, 2013 at the Salvation Army Agape Hospice at the age of 77 years.

Irene was her husbands’ loving wife and best friend. He was at her bed side on her passing. Irene and William would have celebrated their 59th anniversary on June 26.

Irene was born in Dutchess, AB, moved to Calgary at the age of 5 years. Irene attended schools in Ramsay, Colonel Walker, Western Canada High and University of Calgary. Irene worked at Mount Royal College with parents and professionals to set up programs for learning disabled children. She worked with learning disabled children for the Calgary Board of Education and also for the Quaker Oats and Stevens Alberta Co., retiring in 1996. After retirement she volunteered at Richmond Hill Baptist Church library for 10 years. Irene’s hobbies were gardening, art, cooking, long walks and spending Christmas holidays in Victoria, BC. For the past 12 years Irene put up a valiant fight against ovarian, cervical and bladder cancer and other medical problems.

She is survived by her husband William; her son Glen (Carol); grand daughters Claire and Holly; Sandra (Gary);grandson Jason (Jasmine); grandson Dillon (Chelsey); great-grandson Ethan; granddaughter Samantha; son Alan (Kathryn); sister Goldie (Jim); brother Glen (Bette) and cousin Marilyn.

Memorial Services will be held at Richmond Hill Baptist Church (7251 Sierra Morena Blvd. S.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Donations in memory of Irene may be made to ovarian, cervical and bladder cancer. We sincerely thank the doctors, nurses and caregivers at the new South Health Campus for their excellent care and for their work on the medical needs she requested for three years. We also thank all of the staff at the Salvation Army Agape Hospice.
