Ernestine Newel of Calgary passed away at the Carewest Colonel Belcher on Monday, August 16, 2004 at the age of 88 years.
Ernestine was a very strong, active woman who participated in the day trips at the Carewest Colonel Belcher at every opportunity. Her career spanned several years taking her from the Montreal General Hospital where she was a nurse, to Europe during the war as a field nurse, and then to Calgary where she was a nurse and social worker. She had a great sense of humour and enjoyed playing the piano and organ, joining friends for cards and tea, and driving in and around Calgary. Ernestine had great faith in the Lord and enjoyed reading the bible in both French and English. She found joy visiting with her family, particularly her grandsons, and playing with family pets.
Ernestine is survived by two daughters and sons-in-laws, Kathleen and Dennis King of Airdrie and Sheila Newel and Mark Shaw of Calgary and two grandsons, Adam King of Vancouver, BC and Patrick King of Airdrie. She is also survived by a sister-in-law Eileen Starkey of Gananoque, ON and three sisters and brothers-in-law, Ethel and Varge Gilchrist of Ottawa, Gladys and Gordon Willdig of Keoma and Helen and Larry Newel of Calgary. Ernestine was predeceased by her husband Hal, and her two brothers, Leonard and George.
