Grace Neufeld of Calgary passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at the age of 88 years.
Grace was born and raised on a farm near Wellwood, Manitoba the sixth of nine children of Scottish immigrant parents. After high school, she left home to study nursing at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg. After graduation she worked in Winnipeg for a few years, and then moved to Calgary where she met Hank at a Calgary Stampede dance. They married on June 17, 1950 and had 51 wonderful years together before Hank’s passing in 2001. After the birth of their four children, Grace returned to work and eventually took a position at the Foothills Hospital working with newborn infants in the nursery. She loved her work, particularly the babies, and enjoyed great friendships with her colleagues, even after her retirement on December 31, 1987. Some of Grace’s favorite things to do were eating out, drinking good wine, and traveling the country with her husband in their camper van. She was known by all to be a sweet, kind and caring person.
Grace is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Neufeld and Karen Levenback of Takoma Park, Maryland, and K. Gordon Neufeld and Mary Jo Downey of Alplaus, New York; two daughters and sons-in-law Cindy Neufeld and Jon Savary, and Lori and Hermes Michelini, all of Calgary; and by two grandchildren, Calla and Sean Savary.
